DID and its partners to attend 5th annual Convention on Agricultural Finance and Commercialization (FYCA)

September 26, 2017

On October 19 and 20, Développement international Desjardins (DID) and several of its partners will converge on Cartagena, Colombia, for the 5th annual Convention of Agricultural Finance and Commercialization (FYCA). This year, for the first time, DID is taking part in organizing the annual meeting jointly with the Colombia Mercantile Exchange, the Colombian Farmer Society (SAC) and Portafolio, a Colombian business publication. The Government of Canada (Global Affairs Canada) and FADQI, (Financière agricole du Québec – Développement international), DID’s financial and technical partners respectively in the PASAC support program for the agricultural finance sector in Colombia, are also adding their efforts this year to the organizing team.

Representatives from DID and several of its partner organizations will speak at the event to share their vision and describe the progress made in areas as diversified as agricultural finance and insurance, value chains and the role of producer organizations, the environment, financial literacy, gender equality and succession planning for farmers.

  • Jorge Andrés López Bautista, Chairperson of the CoopCentral cooperative bank (Colombia), and
  • Daouda Sawadogo, General Director of the apex organization of the Burkina Faso network of credit and savings cooperatives.

Other DID partners who will speak at the event include representatives from SOCODEVI, the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), the Financière agricole du Québec (the Quebec Government agricultural finance agency), the Canadian Co-operative Association (CCA), the Coop Fédérée, the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), Colombian financial institutions Crezcamos S.A. and Banco Agrario, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Colombia, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Cameroon and the Embassy of Canada in Colombia.

Alongside the FYCA convention on October 18, Proxfin will hold its annual general meeting and a workshop that will highlight PASAC financial literacy activities and innovations in rural areas. In similar fashion to the FYCA event, attendees at the workshop will include the members of the PASAC team and all DID experts working as specialists in agricultural finance services or agricultural development project management.
