The new generation

Obviously one of the main sources of dynamism within an organization is the vitality of its human resources. Original new ideas can grow out of a stimulating work environment which itself can be created by developing the skills of the next generation of managers and staff.

Aware of the need to plan for future manpower needs, DID understands that recruiting young professionals and investing in their development and training is essential. For an expanding organization such as DID this is the approach that will develop dynamism and the desire to excel.

DID offers young people an opportunity to carry out real professional duties under the supervision of experts and experience first-hand the challenges of international development. DID also gives young professionals an opportunity to put their knowledge to work, sharpen their skills, establish working relationships and acquire experience in the field of international development.

By hiring young interns and professionals, DID ensures that it will have a new generation of leaders who will continue to promote and transfer DID philosophy while bringing in new ideas. These people also stimulate renewal and a sharing of expertise among current staffmembers.

That is why for many years DID has collaborated with the International Youth Internship Program run by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA). For more information on internships visit the International Youth Internship Program website.

I always knew that someday I would have an international career... but I didn’t think it would happen so soon! After graduating with a Masters degree in finance, I was chosen by DID for a six-month internship in microfinance with the RCPB network of financial cooperatives in Burkina Faso. This experience was an opportunity for me to learn more about DID and become familiar with fieldwork. After this extremely positive experience, DID offered me a job at the head office as a microfinance advisor.

Today, as a microfinance advisor at DID, I take part in the entire process for each investment made: analyzing requests for financing, verifying data in the field, reviewing contracts and ensuring follow up. Through my work I am able to contribute to strengthening developing countries while broadening my experience in finance and discovering the world...
