November 1, 2019

Gerardo Almaguer, President and Chief Executive Officer of DID, visited Latin America the week of October 14. His trip began in Mexico where he took part in a meeting organized by the Confederation of Savings and Loan Cooperatives of Mexico (CONCAMEX) and Mexico’s social economy and cooperative development commission. The goal of this event was to demonstrate to Mexico's Chamber of Deputies how cooperatives help democratize the country’s economy, and Mr. Almaguer was invited to present Desjardins Group and its development and impact on Canada’s economy.

DID’s CEO then set off for Peru to take part in the Latin America savings and loans cooperatives congress co-organized by FENACREP, Peru’s federation of financial cooperatives. As one of the guest speakers, he addressed such topics as regulatory matters, governance and financial inclusion of women.

At the same time, Lionel Pellizzari, Director, Development and Innovation at DID, was visiting Kenya to take part in the 20th SACCA Congress (Savings and Credit Cooperatives Associations). Organized by the African Confederation of Cooperative Savings and Credit Associations (ACCOSCA), this major event was held in Mombasa, and it brought together more than 800 cooperators from 25 countries. Mr. Pellizzari presented DID’s perspective and its work in the area of digital financial inclusion of women, highlighting how digital financial services can accelerate the financial inclusion of women, boost their economic power and reduce poverty.
